Wines to Pair with your Relationship Status this Valentine’s Day

What’s your relationship status this Valentine’s Day? Are you “just friends” or “happily married?” Perhaps, “it’s complicated” or you are “single and loving it!” No matter what your relationship status is this Valentine’s Day, read on to find the wine pairing made in heaven just for you. Cheers!🥂

“JUST FRIENDS”

This requires an easy-going wine, one that is friendly, light hearted, not too deep or complex. A pét-nat is always a good idea in a “just friends” relationship status. I also recommend a fresh, organic, minimal intervention wine such as Guthrie Family Wines Carbonic Grenache which is super friendly + it has a jamming label which gives “just friends” something to talk about in case it gets weird.

“WE BROKE UP”

This is tricky. You want a wine that can be truly enjoyed for your heart only – a wine that won’t lead you to pick up the phone and call your ex in a moment of nostalgia while watching Bridget Jones Diary. That means a non-alcoholic wine alternative such as NON or a low-alcohol cider which makes a delicious companion. Additionally, sparkling wine or Champagne pairs well with this particular relationship status, as breaking up could be a serious cause for celebration.

“IT’S COMPLICATED”

You’re with someone but you know you’re not going to commit, yet you think you will, but you probably won’t… but you might? This requires an enigmatic, complex wine to match your relationship status. A wine that doesn’t truly commit to one flavor profile yet intrigues and surprises you, which makes you want to keep with its complexities. Hands down, this requires a bold, deep, dark, adventurous, yet smooth wine – B Wise Vineyards TRIOS Cabernet Sauvignon, Moon Mountain District, Estate Grown.

“SINGLE AND LOVING IT!”

Obviously there is a lot of freedom here. You don’t need a partner to feel complete. You are living your best life and savoring every single moment. Possibilities are limitless… you can pair you with whatever your heart desires, whenever you desire. Some of my all-time personal single favorites are Chateau Montelena Zinfandel, Balletto Rosé of Pinot Noir, and my go-to❤️sparkling wine or Champagne. Cheers to YOU!

“MARRIED”

This could go both ways. Married bliss pairs well with sparkling wine or Champagne, a romantic Pinot Noir, a sexy, spicy Syrah, a flirtatious Grenache, creamy, buttery Chardonnay or a sweet dessert wine. Aged Cabernet Sauvignons are good here too, to celebrate the many years of love and marriage, aging like a fine wine. Keep it fun, keep it fresh, keep it sexy, keep it going.

If marriage isn’t the happiest union right now, depending on your situation, this might require a loving wine with a lot of grace such as the Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. A wine that can be shared between two people as they communicate authentically and without condemnation or shame. Contrarily, this relationship status might require a friendly house wine such as Couple Goals shared together over a movie and buttery popcorn with “no conversation needed at this time.”

“I’M ENGAGED!!!”

Everything is coming up roses in this relationship status. This is the moment you have been waiting for. It’s FINALLY here. Go sparkling rosé all day with Schramsberg Brut Rosé. I’m a softie for anything pink and sparkly…. like diamond rings! P.S. Congratulations!!! Toasting to you!!!

“I’M IN A COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP”

Solid baby! Long term commitment is ambitious and takes grit. Go for Cabernet Sauvignons that can last for years like the 2018 Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. And of course, sparkling wine or Champagne is always a steady choice. In this relationship status, experiment with joining a wine club together and celebrate the seasons as you play in wine country.
